Abstract

NIEMBRO, Andrés  and  CALA, Carla Daniela. The potential economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Argentine regions and their sectoral productive patterns in the April-June 2020 period. estud.gerenc. [online]. 2021, vol.37, n.159, pp.210-225.  Epub July 27, 2021. ISSN 0123-5923.  https://doi.org/10.18046/j.estger.2021.159.4343.

This article aimed to build an index of economic effects by COVID-19 to analyze the potential impact of the pandemic and isolation measures between sectors and regions in Argentina, during the quarter of greater recession in the country, April-June, 2020. Takes into account the sectoral productive structure of the regions, the level of operation of each sector, the regional labor mobility, and the potential for teleworking across sectors, it is shown that the pandemic had an unequal impact between regions and that the sectoral specialization profile is a relevant explanatory factor. Tourism, extractive, and heavy industries profiles have been much more affected than agro-industrial and light manufacturing areas.

Keywords : regional inequalities; sectoral specialization; impact index; coronavirus pandemic.
