Abstract

DURAN URREA, Margarita María. "I'm out of units": Academic Trajectories of Anthropology Students at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, 1990-2012. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2015, vol.17, n.2, pp.165-193. ISSN 0123-5931.  https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v17n2.51285.

This article addresses the academic trajectories and expectations of anthropology students at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia [National University of Colombia] in the 1990s and 2000s from a qualitative and ethnographic perspective. Relying on interviews with a biographical emphasis, this paper considers the connection between academic reforms and the concepts of quality, efficiency and equity as applied to the educational sphere. Furthermore, transformations brought about by these reforms are examined in terms of student itineraries and perceptions of their own experiences. This article shows such perceptions to have been formed in relation to the historical context as well as university and national politics. In addition, these opinions have been shaped by the academic reforms implemented in educational institutions (2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008) and the social and personal choices of each student.

Keywords : Academic trajectories; anthropology; student expectations; efficiency; equity; quality.
