Abstract

FELIX, José Carlos  and  SALVADORI, Juliana Cristina. University and Diversity: Challenges of the Multi-campus University / Uneb DCH IV as a Case Study. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2018, vol.20, n.2, pp.103-129. ISSN 0123-5931.  https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v20n2.70643.

The objective of the article is to carry out a reflection on the project that underlies the role of Brazilian state universities, particularly that of the Universidade do Estado da Bahia (Uneb), on the basis of the idea that the development model linked, in the case of Uneb, to identity territories and to the vast multi-campus network, is based on a departmental logic that runs contrary to academic requirements and in favor of rationalist logic. Furthermore, after the restructuring of its teacher-training schools, Uneb has faced two types of challenges: the first has to do with the quality of the education provided in undergraduate professional programs, and the second, with the consolidation of undergraduate professional programs through the strengthening of graduate programs and research activities. The conflict between faculty and student mobility and permanence, fostered by the multi-campus model, poses an additional challenge, illustrated by conflicting identities (for example, Bahia or Sertao identity) materialized in the curricula, infrastructure, and resources.

Keywords : university; multi-campus university; Uneb.
