Abstract

CASTIBLANCO MOLINA, Stephanie. The Ailing Hospital: An Analysis of the Struggle of the Workers of San Juan de Dios Hospital in Bogota, Colombia. rev.estud.soc. [online]. 2017, n.62, pp.102-113. ISSN 0123-885X.  https://doi.org/10.7440/res62.2017.10.

The San Juan de Dios Hospital in Bogota was shut down in 2001, but its workers have rescued the place as a symbol of struggle and resistance, thanks to their demonstrations mediated by emotions, the re-significations of the surroundings, the work of caretaking and the struggle entailed in their everyday practice. This article, which is the product of an ethnographic study, indicates and analyses the reasons why the hospital was closed, the motives and objectives of the workers' struggle, and above all else, it highlights the importance of emotions in the development of their resistance movement, to show the relevance of emotions in socio-political movements, which is the purpose of this text.
