Abstract

Objective

Identify the main educational strategies used by nurses in primary health care and the repercussions in the health-disease process of people living with diabetes mellitus.

Methods

This was a descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, performed with nurses working at the Basic Health Units (UBS, by its initials in Portuguese) in a city in the interior of Bahia. Data were collected through interviews and later analyzed using the analysis technique of content.

Conclusion

It was evident the importance of the nurse as mediator in health to the patient living with diabetes mellitus because it provides information essential for the control as well as for the prevention of complications of the disease.
