Abstract

NORBERG-SCHULZ, Christian. HEIDEGGER’S THOUGHT ON ARCHITECTURE. discus.filos [online]. 2008, vol.9, n.13, pp.93-110. ISSN 0124-6127.

In this paper I examine Heidegger’s conception of being-in-the-world as a poetic inhabiting, and I also describe what has to be taken into account in Heidegger’s philosophy, namely the art of building in order to have a philosophy of architecture. On the other hand, by considering the space -landscape-space in which human life takes place- as a work of art, that is, like the art of building, I try to show how the building brings in "something" like "truth", and as a work of art it "preserves the truth". I also clarify, in this paper, the how and what the work of art does this job stressing that Heidegger did not intend to offer an explanation about building but only help man to go back towards an authentic inhabiting.

Keywords : Art of building; architectonics; Heidegger; preserving truth; being-in-the-world.
