Abstract

SARRAZIN, Jean Paul. The indigenous category defined based on hegemonic stances and its scope in Colombian society. Justicia [online]. 2017, n.32, pp.139-159. ISSN 0124-7441.  https://doi.org/10.17081/just.23.32.2909.

This paper analyzes social representations that have been created, in dominant sectors of Colombian society, considering the intellectual and political elites of the country, and more specifically, those who have been represented in positive terms in the indigenous category. For this research different discourses and imageries that were developed throughout the history of the country, from the nineteenth century to the present day, were considered. These representations have founded an indigenous study, subjected to a critical analysis, because it shows an indigenous category the in its own terms and from power stances, contribute to the reproduction of a cultural hegemony, limiting the voice of otherness and of those groups that supposedly have been represented.

Keywords : Elites; cultural hegemony; indigenism; ethnic policies and social representations.
