The purpose of this document is to analyze the current and plausible need for the creation and implementation of a special environmental court in Colombia, as well as the legal elements or figures that must contain due to the specialty of this branch of law and having in mind the growing environmental crisis that affects not only Colombia but the whole world. The key legal elements that are analyzed are the strengthening of jurisprudence, the transversality of environmental law, the academic preparation of judges, interdisciplinary support, the management of precautionary measures, the judge’s position towards environmental protection, treatment of the proof, the establishment of shorter procedures and sanctions. The research was explanatory, with The research was explanatory, with a qualitative approach in that it allowed to compare and triangulate information and data extracted from public environmental policies, normative provisions, jurisprudential provisions, interviews and focus group with key actors.
