Abstract

DEGREGORI, CARLOS IVÁN  and  SANDOVAL, PABLO. ANTHROPOLOGY IN PERU: FROM THE STUDY OF THE OTHER TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF A DIVERSE US. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2007, vol.43, pp.299-334. ISSN 0486-6525.

THIS ARTICLE PRESENTS AN OVERVIEW OF THE HISTORY OF ANTHROPOLOGY IN PERU, TAKING INTO ACcount its distinct phases: 1. Literary indigenism, 2. The influence of north American culturalism, 3. The impact of development theories, 4. The influence of marxism, and 5. The bankrupcy of the so-called "Andeanist paradigm". We argue that the central contribution of Peruvian anthropology was towards national articulation - by means of ethnographic monographs- exploring undiscovered territories both in the literal and geographical sense of the word, as well as metaphorically: going into sociocultural and temporal ambits previously unknown.

Keywords : Indigenism; anthropology; Peru; andeanism; intellectual history.
