Abstract

VALDEBENITO GONZALEZ, María Paz. The Plea for the Reapropriation of Nature: rumo às novas formas biotecnologizadas do capital. Soc. Econ. [online]. 2013, n.25, pp.55-73. ISSN 1657-6357.

This paper analyzes the relation between nature and society within the framework of the new biotechnological productions, through a critical assessment of modern biotechnological interventions into Nature. Biotechnology allows a reinvention of the Capitalist System in the context of a strong Environmental Globalization and the requirement of a longed ecological balance. This reinvention emerges from a re-appropriation of Nature based in scientific knowledge and a symbolic operation which, through the discourse of sustainable development, reshapes the concept of nature to meet the requirements of standardization, control and capitalization, under market and capital needs.

Keywords : Biotechnology; Capital; Nature; Discourse; Developmentalism Environmentalist.
