Abstract

MORA SALAS, Minor  and  URBINA CORTES, Gustavo A.. Active citizenship and the transition to adulthood in Mexico: the imprint of social origin and the unequal participation of young people. Soc. Econ. [online]. 2017, n.33, pp.175-204. ISSN 1657-6357.  https://doi.org/10.25100/sye.v0i33.5629.

In this article the association between vital and political processes is analyzed, through a general balance of the bibliographic treatment of civic commitment and the transition to adulthood. Through statistical and sociodemographic analysis techniques, the conformation of a temporal dependency pattern is exemplified, where unequal opportunities of civic involvement derive from the possession of certain socioeconomic attributes. The socio-political background of the family, the precedence of associative experiences during childhood are also exemplified; as well as specific events and circumstances that take place during the period that runs from the childhood of the subjects until the moment they acquire the age of majority.

Keywords : young people; transition to adulthood; political participation; citizenship; social inequalities.
