Abstract

ARANGO-GIRALDO, Pablo Andrés  and  CASTANO-RAMIREZ, José Elmer. Invisible Kitchen’s: Work of Rural Women in The Coffee Farms of The Central Zone of Colombia. Soc. Econ. [online]. 2021, n.43, e10510952.  Epub May 01, 2021. ISSN 1657-6357.  https://doi.org/10.25100/sye.v0i43.10952.

The purpose of this article is to present the results of a research conducted on the work of rural women "feeders", in coffee farms and estates in the rural area of three municipalities belonging to the south-central sub-region of Caldas, between 2017 and 2018. The study is supported by mixed research methods particularly in the Dominant Model Concurrent Nested Design (DMCD), whose purpose is to understand the situations of labor invisibility surrounding the activity of preparation and supply of meals for coffee day laborers; as a result, labor conditions marked by segregation, inequity, and precariousness were revealed. It was also demonstrated how their work is an essential issue for the maintenance of the labor force, social relations and the productivity of coffee companies.

Keywords : Rural women; sex discrimination; social justice; coffee; work.
