CORTES-FUENTES, Leidy Alexandra; CORREA-REYES, Juan Gregorio; ALVIS-GUZMAN, Nelson Rafael  and  ALVIS-ESTRADA, Luis Reynaldo. Economic valuation of mortality in Colombia's Amazon region: 2004-2008. Rev. Gerenc. Polit. Salud [online]. 2012, vol.11, n.23, pp.152-164. ISSN 1657-7027.

The aim of this study was to estimate the economic value of mortality in the Amazon Region of Colombia during the period 2004-2008. It uses the information processing methodology and the method of the sum of Years of Potential Life Lost (YPLL). In addition, evidence that mortality is concentrated in the departments of Caquetá, Guaviare and Putumayo; is mainly associated with external causes, all other causes and circulatory diseases. YPLL and economic evaluation show a downward trend, given the decline in deaths of children under 1 year and between 15 and 44. Regional mortality losses are around 2.38 billion pesos (2008), which on average, every year of YPLL has a value of 476 thousand million pesos.
