Abstract

SILVA A., Sandra Milena; TRUJILLO S., Julián; AGUILAR M., Luis Guillermo  and  HINCAPIE P., Margarita. Organic pollutant treatment by photofenton with artificial light. Rev. ing. univ. Medellín [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.15, pp.53-62. ISSN 1692-3324.

The main purpose of this work was to minimize the polluting effect of organic soluble liquid wastes and moderately soluble, generated at the University of Medellín laboratories (Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia), through sensitized photo degradation (photo Fenton), using artificial light as the source of radiation. Fe concentration was changed from 5 to 50 mg/L and for H2O2, from 200 to 500 mg/L, finding an optimum value for Total Organic Carbon (TOC) removal of 27.5 mg/L Fe and 300 mg/L H2O2, which corresponds to 80% of mineralization reached in 150 min of irradiation.

Keywords : waste water; photofenton; artificial light; organic matter; water treatment.
