Abstract

GIRALDO, Yicel Nayrobis  and  RUIZ-SILVA, Alexander. The understanding of solidarity. Analysis of empirical studies. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2015, vol.13, n.2, pp.609-625. ISSN 1692-715X.  https://doi.org/10.11600/1692715x.1324092614.

This paper discusses a number of empirical studies on solidarity in different countries of Latin America. It covers research on solidarity over the last fourteen years in which the diverse disciplines of social sciences, education and the humanities converge. This study is based on a literature review comprised of 39 research-based texts (articles, books, reports). The authors identified three trends in research on solidarity: 1. Action aimed at those considered vulnerable; 2. As a space for expert mediation; and 3. As social practice aimed at overcoming injustice and inequality. Finally, the analysis of these empirical studies allows for a series of reflections of solidarity at the moment and a general proposal for the formulation of a research program in this field.

Keywords : solidarity; volunteering; responsibility.
