Abstract

SANHUEZA-RODRIGUEZ, Alexis  and  JARA, Miguel Ángel. Representations of students regarding the Mapuche conflict in Chile and Argentina. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2023, vol.21, n.3, pp.287-308.  Epub Dec 18, 2023. ISSN 1692-715X.  https://doi.org/10.11600/rlcsnj.21.3.5635.

Research on social representations constructed by students in relation to contemporary problems represents a fundamental space for investigative exploration. This study sought to analyze the representations of Chilean and Argentine primary school students regarding the "conflict" between the Chile, Argentina and the Mapuche people. The research was qualitative and used a grounded theory approach. The data was collected through holding focus groups in Chilean and Argentine schools. The analysis involved the use of coding paradigm procedures in order to investigate social representations in a procedural and structural way. The results reveal the role that students give to the teaching of History. The conclusions identify that the teaching of History does not contribute to the understanding of this problem.
