Abstract
GUTIERREZ ROJAS, Luis Eduardo and OROZCO, Lina María. In-Depth Analysis of Political Parties from a Network Approach: The Case of Cali. Rev. Guillermo Ockham [online]. 2019, vol.17, n.1, pp.41-50. Epub Feb 11, 2021. ISSN 1794-192X. https://doi.org/10.21500/22563202.4042.
This article seeks to identify internal structures within political parties. A case study of a local political system is proposed, starting from a network approach and using the concept of sub-unit. The political system studied is composed by the members of the parties that have representation in the political institutions at departmental and municipal levels, that is, the Assembly of Valle del Cauca and the Council of Santiago de Cali, respectively, as well as their links or affiliations within the local or departmental executive and with the regional parliamentary legislators. The use of a fragmentation indicator based on the number of associated posts within the structure, along with the subunits total is proposed. This research sought to investigate the structures of local parties in Santiago de Cali, in order to show that political parties are not homogeneous entities. Thus, the political party as a category of analysis does not ex-plain the struggle and alliances in competitive environments such as the configuration of political power.
