Abstract

CHAMBERS, Paul. The social sciences as another site of the Colombian conflict: An analysis based on the philosophy of Alasdair MacIntyre. Co-herencia [online]. 2013, vol.10, n.18, pp.223-252. ISSN 1794-5887.

The social scientific study of the Colombian armed conflict has become another setting of the conflict based on radical theoretical and philosophical disagreements. This is due to the inherent normative and ideological dimensions of the social sciences, which affect their theoretical frameworks, the scientific methods employed, and the perception of the ''facts'' to be analyzed. They also impact on the type of explanations and variables deemed relevant, and the conclusions reached. The article argues that the philosophical theses of Alasdair MacIntyre can explain and elucidate the problem, as well as point towards a solution

Keywords : Alasdair MacIntyre; social sciences; Colombian conflict; radical disagreement; ethics; ideology; methodology.
