Abstract

RESTREPO DAVID, Felipe. Alfonso Reyes: A humanist critical. Co-herencia [online]. 2014, vol.11, n.20, pp.99-119. ISSN 1794-5887.

One of the most divulged concepts by the Atheneum of Youth from Mexico in 1910 was ''The culture of the Humanities'', and two of its most relevant exponents were Pedro Henríquez Ureña and Alfonso Reyes. Alfonso Reyes focused his literary criticism specifically on the Humanities, making it one of the highest expressions of his written production. One of his best-known works, ''A Human Critique'', is centered on the concept of concord, which means to consider 'others' work with sensibility and good faith, that is to say, ''from the heart''. Here we have gone over the paths through which Alfonso Reyes came to this posture, reflecting on the concepts of Humanism developed by Liliana Weinberg, Beatriz Colombi, José Miguel Oviedo and Edward Said.

Keywords : Alfonso Reyes; Literary Criticism; Humanism; Concord; Pedro Henríquez Ureña.
