Abstract
HENAO-GARCIA, Edwin Alexander; LOPEZ-GONZALEZ, Mauricio and GARCES-MARIN, Robinson. Research and innovation capabilities measurement in higher education institutions: A dynamic capabilities approach. Entramado [online]. 2014, vol.10, n.1, pp.252-271. ISSN 1900-3803.
Institutions of Higher Education, as the main knowledge generating entities, are supposed to know their research and innovation capabilities, in order to promote polices aimed to increase and improve them. This study aims to construct a model to measure those capabilities, from the so-called dynamic capabilities approach. We propose an original methodology: The Research and Innovation Capabilities Matrix (RI-CM) developed in a manner similar to the BCG Matrix, which was able to identify a strategic set of indicators. After testing this methodology for the case of the University of Antioquia, we found that this methodology achieves robust results for the measurement of research and innovation capabilities, while pointing to this university as having a good level of research capabilities and increasing opportunities in innovation capabilities; results are consistent with other analyzes performed on other methodologies.
