Abstract

GIOFFREDA, Camilo. The Chinese Space Station and its Impact on the Argentine National Defense. rev.relac.int.estrateg.segur. [online]. 2019, vol.14, n.2, pp.179-200. ISSN 1909-3063.  https://doi.org/10.18359/ries.3920.

This article discusses the geopolitical impact of the Chinese space station installed in southern Argentina. For this, reference is made to the strategic position of Asia Pacific, China's projection in the South Atlantic and, finally, the implications that the establishment of such space station could have on the Argentine national defense. In this sense, descriptive and explanatory analyses with a qualitative approach are performed, based on a collection of bibliographic sources, official documents, and newspaper articles. In anticipation, it is considered that an eventual breakdown of the Asia Pacific strategic scenario -which openly confronts China and the United States- will put Argentina in a delicate foreign policy situation for being in the midst of a specific geopolitical competition between two major powers.

Keywords : Argentina; Asia Pacific; South Atlantic; China; North Korea; space station; United States; geopolitics.
