Abstract

ARREDONDO PENARANDA, Alejandro  and  LONDONO LOPEZ, Marta Elena. HYDROGELS: POTENTIALS BIOMATERIALS FOR CONTROLLED DRUG DELIVERY. Rev. ing. biomed. [online]. 2009, vol.3, n.5, pp.83-94. ISSN 1909-9762.

With traditional methods in drug release, poor controls are obtained about the ideals therapeutic levels that are required by the treatments. Due to these anomalies, the drug that initially was effective for the treatment of aforementioned disease, may not be administered in the required amount, at the right time and the expected location for effective treatment. On the other hand the rise, in recent years, about hydrogels as delivery systems, shows new alternatives to do an exact control in the field of drug delivery. In the present review, are shown the main properties about these interesting biomaterials, in addition to the drugs conditions to be take into account and then the basis that involve design and production of drug delivery systems based on hydrogels.

Keywords : Release control; Drug; Hydrogel; Ideal therapeutic level.
