Abstract

MARQUES DOS SANTOS, Leticia; BRUTSCHER, Luana Vanessa  and  BRITO SANTOS FERNANDES, Carlândia. Desindustrilization in Brazil: is there evidence of acceleration in the Covid-19 period?. rev. econ. Caribe [online]. 2023, n.32, pp.1-.  Epub Mar 05, 2024. ISSN 2011-2106.

This article verifies if there is evidence of intensification of the deindustrialization process in Brazil -given the recent world period characterized as the COVID-19 pandemic - and investigates the role of the manufacturing industry in economic growth via Kaldor-Verdoorn laws. Te results indicate support for Kaldor's laws and that there are indications of the intensification of the process of deindustrialization of the Brazilian economy during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the importance of adopting strategies that focus on reversing this process and that, in this way, enable, higher rates of economic growth.

Keywords : deindustrialization; COVID-19; Kaldor-Verdoorn.
