Abstract
DE ALMEIDA, Bruna Rocha and GONCALVES BARBOSA, Altemir José. Positive Psychology and intellectual disability: Analysis of scientific production. CES Psicol [online]. 2014, vol.7, n.2, pp.44-58. ISSN 2011-3080.
It is a challenge to consider the positive aspects of intellectual disability (ID) because the deficits are presented and impose limitations. However, it is necessary to balance the assistance to the limitations and the emerging of individuals with ID. In order to analyze publications on ID that are based in the Positive Psychology, it was performed a systematic search of indexed articles on the PsycINFO and/or on the LILACS databases. Although, relevant issues (resilience etc.) are examined, the number of publications (N = 9) is poor, and only two of them report empirical research. There are not publications from Latin America. In spite of the advances, the findings show, the negative aspects of ID are still prevalent. It is recommended to conduct more empirical research with a positive approach in intellectual disability
