CERVERA, Sergio  and  TORREGROSA, Lilian. Leadership as a fundamental competence for the general surgery resident. rev. colomb. cir. [online]. 2011, vol.26, n.3, pp.164-170. ISSN 2011-7582.

Accomplishing the characteristics that are expected in a surgical leader today implies the individual dedication to learning and developing certain abilities. This voyage in personal development lasts along the surgeons entire professional careers, but it can be initiated during the early surgical residency years. Therefore, it becomes the responsibility of the academic training programs to guarantee that surgical residents have the adequate tools and opportunities for the recognition and development of their overall potential as leaders.
