Abstract

BESSA MOREIRA, Nuno. Local History, Space and Landscape in Portugal: Historiographical Overview and Case Study of Revisat de História (1912-1928). Historelo.rev.hist.reg.local [online]. 2016, vol.8, n.15, pp.60-89. ISSN 2145-132X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/historelo.v8n15.48676.

This study aims to present a general historiographical view about the subject of local history according to similar synthesis efforts made especially by José Maria Amado Mendes. This milestone provides the background for a case-study on a journal. In the Revista de História, run by Fidelino de Figueiredo and published between 1912 and 1928, local history was one of the studied subject areas. In this research the historiobiographical uses of notions such as space, territory, place and landscape are analysed in some studies of the journal written by Manuel Paulo Rocha, Manuel Silva and Teixeira de Sampayo. Some of them show a paternalistic view of the heritage assets, some other engage in a critical historiography, along with attempts to research the documentary accuracy of the rankean historicism and less influenced by the French Methodical School approach.

Keywords : local history; space; landscape; historiography; journal.
