Abstract
PADILLA-ESCORCIA, Iván Andrés; GONZALEZ-TINOCO, Nohemy Esther and FERNANDEZ-DIAZ, Osmar Rafael. Statistical Model to Estimate the Influence of Critical Reading on the Competencies Assessed in the Saber 11°. Trilogía. Cienc. Tecnol. Soc. [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.26, e200. Epub Aug 22, 2022. This study aimed to verify, using Statgraphics software, the correlation between the critical reading competency and the performance in basic sciences evaluated in the Saber 11° test of 2018 of high school students from 177 institutions in Barranquilla, Colombia. For this purpose, an experimental design and a quantitative approach were used to investigate whether critical reading influenced other competencies. Our findings led to the conclusion that their performance in mathematics, social sciences and civic competence, and natural sciences is strongly correlated with their critical reading. Consequently, schools in Barranquilla should strengthen their students’ critical reading because it is essential to develop most of the competencies evaluated in standardized tests such as Saber 11°. They should also incorporate information and communication technologies into their teaching, learning, and assessment processes as they offer advantages such as the development of critical thinking.
