Abstract

AVILA, Danae Duana  and  VAZQUEZ ROJAS, Angélica María. Modelo econométrico para determinar el impacto de la industria maquiladora en la generación de empleos. suma neg. [online]. 2012, vol.3, n.2, pp.9-24.  Epub Dec 01, 2012. ISSN 2215-910X.

The opening of overseas business, whatever the mode of market penetration, through the creation of subsidiaries, franchises, licensing, or even through integrative mechanisms such as strategic alliances is an effective measure to expand business in a global context, increase sales, increase customer base and thus increase the profits of an enterprise, as well as to provide multiple benefits. The feature highlighted in this paper regarding the maquiladora phenomenon is its ability to generate jobs. We are not trying to make a research about the type of work demanded by level of qualification or sex, or sociological characteristics such as working conditions. We propose a model that attempts to specify the mechanism which generates the demand for employment in this type of activity. The objective is to empirically evaluate hypotheses relating the demand for employment in the maquiladora industry and the state’s total interior, with salaries, locational factors (specialization and concentration), the exchange rate and the dependence of the maquila respect to U.S. industrial activity.

Keywords : Maquiladora industry; econometric model; employment; Exchange rate.
