Abstract

Introduction: Facing the breast cancer by women in middle age is a very painful process because it involves a change in several roles that this woman is developing in this time of life. The objective is to analyze the changes of these roles, broaching the problems found in this phase and identify if there are strategies used to a better quality of life. Materials and Methods: This is a study of integrative review of qualitative nature, using as descriptors: women, diagnostic and breast cancer. Results: Eleven articles were selected, as addressed properly the object of study. We can see that there has been a renewed interest in this topic of research, such as feelings, experiences and coping strategies of women diagnosed with breast cancer. Discussion: In this phase, the biggest problems faced by those women are the psychological traumas, loss of self-esteem the feeling of guilt and failure, before this diagnosis. It is observed that the family life of a woman with breast cancer, their dynamic changes a whole, since the stage of middle age; she would have roles of mother, wife and worker, now restricted, or else, going through various changes. Conclusions: And the strategies involved that most rule in the success of treatment are family and partner support and the return of this woman to her social space, with the help of experienced groups and rehabilitation social services.
