Abstract

DALLASTA DEL GROSSI, Viviane Ceolin. BRICS AND INITIATIVES IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND INNOVATION POST-JOHANNESBURG SUMMIT. Novum Jus [online]. 2020, vol.14, n.1, pp.137-164.  Epub Oct 03, 2022. ISSN 1692-6013.  https://doi.org/10.14718/novumjus.2020.14.1.6.

This article describes the most recent initiatives of BRICS in the context of science, technology, and innovation (STI), from the most recent instruments adopted to put into place proposals, in addition to starting the task of researching its implementation, beginning with the presentation of the efforts of Brazil and China. The approach brings the results and proposals of the 10th BRICS Presidential Summit, held in Johannesburg, South Africa. The study, guided by STI aspects, focuses on recent developments and alliances established between Brazil and China. It highlights that cooperation in STI will only become valuable in the group with specific characteristics - developing countries with severe problems of social inequality - if it brings benefits to society, the reduction of social inequality, and the general improvement in the living conditions of member countries. In the current world context, existing models should be revoked and legal requirements for new models should be established. Additionally, it should be determined if the legal structure is aligned with the conviction that cultural diversity can provide innovative solutions to peacefully respond to new world challenges.

Keywords : BRICS; science; technology and innovation; 4th Industrial Revolution.
