Abstract

TORRES-MORALES, Germán; NOVA, Laura  and  COGOLLO, Álvaro. Checklist of useful plants of the Claro River basin (Antioquia, Colombia). Biota colombiana [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.1, e1048.  Epub Feb 22, 2023. ISSN 0124-5376.  https://doi.org/10.21068/2539200x.1048.

The Claro river basin in Antioquia, Colombia, is a region with great biological importance, since it houses unique ecosystems, such as the karst ecosystem, as well as an abundant diversity of plant species that have a remarkable potential use for local communities. However, a list of useful plants for the basin has not yet been made, and this knowledge is still scattered. To compile and catalog this knowledge and to make it known, we compiled a list of native species for the Río Claro basin with uses reported in literature, thereby generating knowledge that provides the necessary basis to guide research efforts and sustainable use of biodiversity. For this purpose, we consulted information from herbaria and specialized literature. Similarly, workshops were held with the communities to investigate local uses, and subsequently types of use were categorized. Based on this, 650 species with reported uses were recorded for the basin, 31 of them endemic to Colombia. Regarding local uses, 58 useful species were recorded with the comunity.
