Abstract

DIAZ-URIBE, Carlos E. et al. Methylene blue degradation under visible irradiation on TiO2 electrodes sensitized by dye chlorophyll extract from Spinacia Oleracea plant. Prospect. [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.2, pp.7-12. ISSN 1692-8261.  https://doi.org/10.15665/rp.v16i2.1455.

In this work, we studied photocatalytic activity of photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll) adsorbed on titanium dioxide surface under visible light irradiation, pigments were extracted by cold maceration from spinach plants (Spinacia Oleracea), TiO2 films were deposited through doctor blade technique, the quantification of the pigments was carried out the trichromatic method according to the standardized standard for the quantification of chlorophyll 10200H. Finally, we determined the photocatalytic capacity of the modified TiO2 under visible irradiation, we tested degradation of the methylene blue during 140 minutes. The results indicated that the sensitization process of the TiO2 films by Spinacia Oleracea extract improved photocatalyst optical response at the visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum; furthermore, the photodegradation results showed that modified electrodes degradation percentage (25%) was higher than TiO2 unmodified degradation percentage (<5%).
