GUERRERO, Rosmar; FARFAN DE ROJAS, Milagros  and  LARA, Jesús Darío. Academic Writing in Engineering: An Approach to the Hispanic American Case. Enunciación [online]. 2023, vol.28, n.1, pp.34-51.  Epub Nov 24, 2023. ISSN 0122-6339.  https://doi.org/10.14483/22486798.20381.

Research on academic writing has increased in recent decades, paving the way to the foundation of a disciplinary space that has contributed to transformations in teaching and studies at the university level. The objective of this article is to describe how academic writing in engineering has been approached for the Hispanic American context. An exploratory review was carried out in open access scientific journals, from which a corpus of 36 publications for the 2011-2021 period was collected and analyzed. The findings show that studies on academic writing in engineering have increased in recent years. There is a tendency to study it from its subdisciplines and in the undergraduate programs. A potential development of interdisciplinary work is perceived in the incipient collaboration between language and engineering teachers. There is a predominance of methodologically empirical research, and studies are characterized by a theoretical heterogeneity. Moreover, a social-oriented approach to writing is noticed, leaving strictly cognitive studies aside. A social-oriented approach to writing is noticed, leaving aside strictly cognitive studies. It is concluded that advancements have been made in the discipline to address the study of writing in the university contexts, now with more delimited reference frameworks, as is the case of the engineering area.
