Abstract

VALDES-MARTINEZ, Gonzalo; DEVIA-OLAYA, Liana Katherine  and  HERRERA, Loren K. Vargas. Colombian Education in Globalization (1990-2000). Folios [online]. 2023, n.57, pp.163-176.  Epub June 02, 2023. ISSN 0123-4870.  https://doi.org/10.17227/folios.57-11882.

The present reflection article performs a characterization of educational discourse that arises with the phenomenon of globalization in Colombia. The historical period studied covers the years 1990 and 2000, a stage marked by the economic opening of the country and the implementation of reforms that refunded the educational system. The investigation was carried out by tracing documents (public politics, academic, and press articles) produced at the time. His analysis focuses on the establishment of the events that intervene in the appearance of this discourse and on the analysis of the concepts and theses that underlie the new education. The results show the way in which economic openness motivates modernization, increased competitiveness, the productive use of knowledge in Colombia, and the configuration of an education that contributes to economic growth, the decentralization of institutions, and the achievement of social equity.

Keywords : Globalization; education; Colombia; human capital; educational equity; decentralization.
