Abstract

MARTINEZ, Marina A.. "Tendremos que vivir en este lado": Building Habitability from a Gender Perspective. Territ. [online]. 2024, n.50, e4.  Epub Feb 29, 2024. ISSN 0123-8418.  https://doi.org/10.12804/revistas.urosario.edu.co/territorios/a.12511.

La Vuelta del Paraguayo is a riverside neighborhood of the city of Santa Fe that is located in the alluvial valley of the Paraná River and has the peculiarity that it suffers from cyclical flooding. In this article we are interested in investigating what are the strategies of construction of habitability in their own houses to be able to live with the "invasion" of the river. The category of habitability is what will guide us throughout the writing, since it is a notion that allows us to read the problem in terms of gender, because it is women who are socially in charge of making spaces habitable for reproduction. From ethnographic interviews with women who live in the neighborhood, we were able to identify that the construction of the "inhabitable" space has different strategies depending on the height of the river.

Keywords : Women; habitability; houses; floods; neighborhood; Argentina.
