Abstract

MORALES MARTIN, Juan Jesús. “A Hopeful Vision of Democracy”: About Jorge Graciarena. rev.estud.soc. [online]. 2016, n.58, pp.97-107. ISSN 0123-885X.

The main objective of this article is to recover the democratic and utopian thinking of Argentine sociologist Jorge Graciarena (Buenos Aires 1922-2014). Given a Latin American and international context dominated by the importance of economic development and growth, as well as the weakening of politics, it is relevant to reclaim, in the face of these unfortunate circumstances, the critical ideas of the classics of Latin American sociology. A precise valuation of the democratic, political and sociological discourse of said author will help us to redirect the contemporary theoretical debate of sociology in Latin America around fundamental questions such as ethical knowledge, historical reason, and the sense of intellectual responsibility.

Keywords : Jorge Graciarena; democratic utopia; Latin American sociology.
