This article analyzes performance measurement in project management and the influence it has upon the success of its execution. Current bibliography, knowledge and perspectives of public directors have been fully studied. Besides, the impact of the use of performance and indicators measurement systems upon the outcomes of the recent several interventions that the interviewers have already made are being analyzed. Through an interpretation and theoretical work, the vision of literature and the standards of international organizations which manage projects. An empirical work has been made collecting information from different directors in several sectors. The correlation among different variables determining the application of performance measurement systems as well as determining the variables to measure success criteria. A positive influence involving the use of indicators for the acquisition of performance systems has been found upon success criteria. The correlation made between the theoretical revision and the empirical has allowed to determine the application of performance measurement tools as a key factor in the process of project management. We also pretend to promote the use of metrical techniques and the development of methodological applications to improve the outcomes in the execution and control of processes and tasks.
