The recognition of Colombia as a pluriethnic and multicultural nation corresponds to one of the most significant changes at the social and political level, introduced by the Constitution of 1991. Based on the experience of Indigenous peoples, this paper examines the effects of such a transformation at the intersection of discourses and practices. Thirty years later, in a context that reveals a nuanced balance of “Colombian-style multiculturalism,” Indigenous peoples’ influence stands out in the (sub)national political sphere, through institutionalization and resistance processes.
