Taking the lead from a recent inquiry by Vito Velluzzi, the paper sets forth a rational reconstruction of the concept of general clause, meant to be respectful of the plurality of competing legal-dogmatics conceptions. A few thesis about the indeterminacy, interpretation and socalled elasticity of general clauses are also analyzed, in order to provide a more accurate and realistic view of the matter.
