This article aims to be a contribution to Intellectual History by interpreting a survey devised by the Revista de las Indias, which was answered by several intellectuals between 1944 and 1945. Based on the revision of some printed sources, it establishes a characterization of the Colombians and Spaniards that were surveyed. It also starts a discussion of the answers given to two specific problems: the immediate future of culture, and the social role of intellectuals in the post-war. Finally, it concludes that they related their destiny as a group to the victory of liberal democracies, while refusing Soviet hegemony.
