1Editor and director, Revista Colombiana de Gastroenterología.

Dear readers: I offer you my best wishes for this new year 2021. 2020 was a year of great difficulty and learning in many aspects: the world changed and most face-to-face activities were replaced by virtual ones, which in turn gave rise to new challenges that we all had to face due to the COVID-19 pandemic and our journal was not the exception. However, in the face of this challenge, all the people taking part in the editorial process of the journal have worked with great enthusiasm, attitude and responsibility.

Regarding our readers, I feel satisfied with the large increase of visits to our journal website both nationally and internationally, as evidenced in both our Google Analytics and Scielo statistics reports. Similarly, I must highlight the great work of the peer reviewers, who with great eagerness and quality have quickly reviewed the articles they have been asked to evaluate; for this reason, as advised by edition experts, their contribution is acknowledged by publishing the list of reviewers within the pages of the journal. Furthermore, authors have received important feedback from our information and compliance by them with the use of our OJS (Open Journal System) website during the whole editorial process has increased; likewise, we are already including in the journal the ORCID codes of the authors of all papers that have successfully completed our strict publication process, in order for the journal to continue complying with international standards. As it has been the case in each prior issue of the journal, I must thank both our editorial committee and our editorial assistant who each month work really hard to make our journal more academic, improve our quality and gain more knowledge about scientific journals.

Likewise, I am proud that last year, besides the 4 mandatory issues, 2 high quality supplements were published in our journal. The publication of these supplements received very positive comments that provide us with feedback to improve our work.

Finally, a new issue of the journal is published today. This is the first of 2021 and it contains papers addressing very interesting topics. I want to highlight the inclusion of very current technological topics, such as the use of artificial intelligence to improve colon polyp detection. In fact, this is why an editorial about it was included in this issue.

I hope you enjoy the interesting topics addressed in this issue, increase the use of letters to the editor as a way to communicate with us and with our authors, and continue participating in each stage of the editorial process, so that our journal, whose current motto is “Revista Colombiana de Gastroenterología, a journal of all and for all”, keeps improving and obtains greater achievements thanks to all of us.
