CONTRERAS, Irasema Borbón; CASTILLO-PONCE, Ramón A. y RODRIGUEZ ESPINOSA, María de Lourdes. INSTITUTIONAL DETERMINANTS OF BANK CREDIT: DOES THE LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT MATTER?. Innovar [online]. 2019, vol.29, n.73, pp.69-84. ISSN 0121-5051. https://doi.org/10.15446/innovar.v29n73.78012.
This research evaluates the relationship between the credit granted to the private sector and institutional variables, considering countries at different levels of development. The analysis is implemented through an empirical exercise that uses a panel data for a universe of 126 countries during the 2004-2013 period. Results suggest that the institutional efficiency determines the performance of credit market, both in developed and developing countries. This finding is contrary to others shown in the literature, where the impact of institutions is usually significant when economies have reached a development threshold.
