Resumen

ENRIQUEZ C, MARIO; VELASCO M, REINALDO  y  ORTIZ G, VICENTE. COMPOSITION AND PROCESSING OF STARCH-BASED BIODEGRADABLE FILMS. Rev.Bio.Agro [online]. 2012, vol.10, n.1, pp.182-192. ISSN 1692-3561.

Starch is a promissory polymer to biodegradable films development for replacement traditional package materials due to it´s cheap, highly available and comes from natural resources. However, films made with starch only has limitations like poor mechanical properties, high vapor water permeability, retrogradation tendency, high rigidity, brittle, and others when compared to traditional synthetic films. To avoid these limitations is necessary to mix and blend starch with other substances with the aim of create filmogenic formulations and films like the synthetic ones. Below is a review made from patents and scientific articles complemented in which are listed more common components used for biodegradable starch-based films manufacturing and main processing methods.
