Resumen

VALENCIA H, CARLOS EDUARDO; PAYAN M, JAIME; APPEL U, VENUS ALMA  y  SALAZAR A, HAROLD. EVALUATION OF THE EFFICACY OF COPPER AGAINST BOVINE PAPILOMATOSIS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CAUCA. Rev.Bio.Agro [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.1, pp.218-224. ISSN 1692-3561.

The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of copper as an alternative treatment for bovine papilomatosis, in comparison to two standard treatments. Forty female cross-bred, dual-purpose bovines with cutaneous papilomatosis, between the ages of 3 to 72 months, raised in pasture in the center, North and East of the department of Cauca were studied. Only animals that had not previously received other treatments for papilomatosis were included in this study. The animals were randomly distributed, independently of age, into 4 treatment groups of 10 animals each: Group I (control group) received a single injection of distilled water; Group II had a copper wire earring placed on each ear; Group III received treatment with an autogenous papilomavirus vaccine twice 15 days apart; Group IV recieved 4 intramuscular injections, every 8 days, of 7% diminazene diaceturate at a dose of 3,5 mg per kg of body weight. The animals were evaluated at 15 day intervals during a 60 day period for the number of cutaneous papilomas. The results showed that the treatment with the copper earring was the most consistent in generating a reduction in the number of papilomas, however, there was no significant statistical difference in efficacy of treatment between the four groups
