Resumen

SERRANO GUZMAN, María Fernanda; PEREZ RUIZ, Diego Darío; GALVIS MARTINEZ, John Freddy  y  RODRIGUEZ SIERRA, Marlon Leonardo. Weighted sums evaluation applied for selection of nonconventional energy sources. Prospect. [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.2, pp.7-12. ISSN 1692-8261.  https://doi.org/10.15665/rp.v15i2.913.

Much of human activity uses energy which comes from water or fossil fuels. However, the decrease in the amount of water available, changes in air quality and other damage caused to the landscape are encouraging the use of non-conventional energy sources which cause a lesser effect in the quality of the environment. This article describes the method of weighted sums for assessing the environmental quality of energy sources based on coal, gas, wind, solar, nuclear and biomass. Although the proposed method of selection hierarchizes energy sources considering water footprint attributes, carbon footprint, footprint of land and production costs, for a final implementation of energy projects must be included other criteria and use other complex methods. The results of the work suggest that wind energy, thermal and biomass-based sugar cane energy are the most recommended because they have high environmental quality indicators.
