This is a study on the relationship between affection and optimism in students of Pedagogy from a private school in the metropolitan region of Campinas. The sample is comprised of 186 university students aged 18-56. 99.5% out of the total are undergraduate women, from the first to the last year of Pedagogy, and graduate students of Psychology and Pedagogy. The Affection Scales and Revised Life Orientation Test Brasil (LOT-R) were applied. The results of the study showed higher levels of positive affections. They also showed group differences. Optimism and hope levels were higher for freshmen and graduate students. Older students are more realistic and less hopeful than those in middle-range age categories. In terms of the relationship between the constructs, the results showed a moderate correlation between optimism and positive affection.
