Resumen

GABRIEL RAMJAS, John Simon. COLOMBIAN FOREIGN POLICY IN RELATION TO THE FORMATION OF NEW STATES IN CENTRAL EASTERN EUROPE. hist.crit. [online]. 2004, n.28, pp.201-215. ISSN 0121-1617.

A litde more than ten years have passed since the processes of disintegration of the former federated states of Central Eastern Europe (Soviet Union, December 1991; Yugoslavia, June 1991-Abril 1992; Czechoslovakia, December 1992). These processes have not only had implications for Europe and the West, but for countries like Colombia as well. Indeed, every country has had to assume a position with respect to the political events that have occurred in the región, and particularly to determine its relationingwkh the new States. In fact, during this period, Colombia has been recognizing and establishing diplomatic relations with these new States. The quiet diplomatic work carried out during these years has barely been diffused either by the Communications media or by academic centers, despite the fact that this constitutes one of the most important tasks carried out by the Cancillería (Foreign Relations Office) in relation to Central Eastern Europe. During this period, Colombia has recognized and/or established diplomatic relations with a total of 22 new nations that have emerged in the región. This text ps a reflects upon how me process has been carried out and explores the nation's policy in relation to these new nations.

Palabras clave : International relations; canállerías (foreign relations offices); CentralEastern Europe; diplomatic relations.
