The beauty is universal part of the human experience. It has been shown that its perception brins pleasure, while increasing probability of mating. Sensitivity to beauty has its philogenetically determined brain structures, and also sociocultural aspects. Recent studies show that lack of physical attractiveness and distortion of body image are risk factors for psychopathology. Women?s aesthetic attributes have been assesed from different optics, but popularization the beauty began with feminine magazines, audiovisual media and cyberspace. From them on, unattainable beauty models have been created and woman live under the tyranny of «beauty», in search of «body perfection». This paper poses that when beauty is overvalued and distorted, it may be related to psychopathology.
