The study starts from the following consideration: the library is a social institution and its organizational setting is oriented to the fulfillment of social targets. The study takes libraries as systems neither deterministic nor closed for which a systemic complex approach is used to create a concept and characterization proposal of the library as a living organism, derived from the historical effort of the systemic differentiation regarding other social organisms, able to socialize and adapt to its environment and transform it, mainly, by means of its self organization and the urgency.
