Resumen

RUEDA CACERES, LILIANA. A Conflict of Interest in the Demolition of the Convent and Church of Santo Domingo. Bogotá 1939-1947. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2012, vol.39, n.1, pp.119-144. ISSN 0120-2456.

The demolition of the old convent of Santo Domingo in April 1939 fragmented the urban block where the convent had stood for over 300 years. What were the additional consequences of this fragmentation? The article centers on the analysis of the real estate changes that took place in the "new" block that arose as a result of the demolition of the Church of Santo Domingo, seven years after the demolition of the convent, a process that revealed the existence of conflicts of interest. The theoretical and methodological framework for the analysis of this case is urban history, which understands the city as a social product and in which blueprints become reflection tools. The article concludes that more than an inconvenience for the modernization of the city, the old convent was a real obstacle to the densification and profitability of a sector that had developed anarchically, without due regulation and control on the part of the responsible authorities.
